Lodging

This post is for discussing lodging options, sharing lodging info, etc.

As many of you as will fit are welcome to stay in my flat while in Edinburgh. However, my place is much smaller than Mary's. I have a fairly large one-bedroom flat with one bathroom, and could probably fit a max of 5 other people. I have two nice-sized couches (each about the length of a twin bed), and floor space for 2 comfortably. Three on the floor would probably be doable, but a bit of a squeeze. Keep in mind that there is no place to escape to in my flat, just kitchen, sitting room, and bedroom.

[Added on 10/02]

For anyone who doesn't want to sleep on my couch or floor, I know that I originally suggested renting a flat, but with folks potentially arriving in Edinburgh at different times, and working out payment, and not everyone necessarily wanting to go that option, I'm changing my stance. There are about 10 Bed and Breakfasts within a short walk of my flat, as well as a Best Western. We could use my flat as home base, so to speak, for cooking the occasional meal or what not. You all could try to stay in the same B&B (i.e., we could take it over :+), or not. But I think the B&B option allows for more flexibility. Plus, sometimes they have sitting rooms that would allow for CB congregation, in case my flat ends up being too much of a squeeze.

Here are links to the B&Bs that I know of within about a 5 minute walk to my flat. I haven't tried to create a Google map yet with all the B&Bs, but if it helps with your planning, I live approximately here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=EH10+4JG&ie=UTF8&ll=55.938433,-3.208501&spn=0.004807,0.014184&z=16
If you want to see where many of the below B&B's are, click on the map, and then search for "guest houses". Most of them should pop up on the map. FYI - I live in a great spot for catching buses to places around the city that you might like to see.

Mardale Guest House: http://www.mardale-guest-house.co.uk/
Kaimes Guest House: http://www.kaimeshouse.co.uk/ (had trouble with link, but maybe just me*)
Afton Guest House: http://www.aftonguesthouse.co.uk/
Cruachang Guest House: http://www.cruachanguesthouse.co.uk/
The Green House: http://www.greenhouse-edinburgh.com/ (vegan and vegetarian)
Robertson Guest House: http://www.robertson-guesthouse.com/
Martin's Guest House: http://www.martinsguesthouse.co.uk/
Burns Guest House: http://www.burnsguesthouse.co.uk/
Menzies Guest House: http://www.menzies-guesthouse.co.uk/
Elm View: http://www.elmview.co.uk/

Best Western in Bruntsfield: http://www.thebruntsfield.co.uk/

I have no idea which of the above might be good or bad. I suggest checking out Trip Advisor for reviews.

I would love a spot on your floor for the duration of the CB meet, Theresa.

I've also looked into costs for hostels (never used one and they kinda scare me), B&Bs, and hotels. Don't know how you go about renting a flat.

Did I mention that I'm really exited?

I'm glad you're excited! And yes, you may have a spot on the floor or even on a couch.

There are actually quite a few B&Bs close to where I live. I'm going to try to gather some info about these and possibilities for short-term flat rentals.

Ok, Here is an option for those who want to do the whole "tour" thing. I got this from our travel agent.
http://www.trafalgartours.com/USA/DisplayTour?TourID=7175&RegionID=0&CountryID=17&TypeID=0&LengthID=2&BudgetID=0&TimeID=35&Keywords=&BrochureTypeID=0

Hope that works. Essentially, it is a 10 day tour of England, Scotland and Ireland.

The agent said we had to be present for the whole tour though. So we would have to do the whack event either before or after the official tour. I still need to think this out. No specific dates in mind yet.

My DH & I will go the B&B option. Thank you very much for posting the info for the ones close to you. I'll check them out. We are looking into other tour options also. I'll add that info when it gets clearer what the choices are.
